Have you heard the news about vaping?
If not… let us tell you, it’s scary.
Teen vaping is climbing at an exponential rate (1), and wherever you live around the country, you’re seeing more and more adults join in on the trend too. The first confirmed death from vaping spread quickly across all news outlets, causing a lot of worry for parents or anybody with vaping loved one.
What even IS vaping?
Let’s start with how you do it- the actual device and types of vape pens.
“Generally a vaping device consists of a mouthpiece, a battery, a cartridge for containing the e-liquid or e-juice, and a heating component for the device that is powered by a battery. When the device is used, the battery heats up the heating component, which turns the contents of the e-liquid into an aerosol that is inhaled into the lungs and then exhaled.” (2)
When you inhale, the “vapor” is the product of heating whatever substance is in the cartridge so that it turns into fine particles. These fine particles are able to directly integrate into your bloodstream, through your lungs and your brain, causing the almost immediate onset of effects.
The contents of the “e-liquid” are directly responsible for the effects that the consumer is looking for. For example, e-cigarettes contain liquids like propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin as a base for nicotine and chemical flavorings.
CBD or THC pens on the market can also use propylene glycol and vegetable glycerin as a base for their cannabis extracts, with some companies using MCT oil (fractionated coconut oil) as a “healthier” alternative.
What is so concerning about vaping and what it does to your body?
When it comes to cannabis, vaping is highly recommended because it is one of the most bioavailable methods of consumption. The direct contact that these fine particles have with our bloodstream (3), allows for patients to feel more relief, faster. But this concept is only as valid as the substance you are directly introducing to your body.
The common vegetable glycerine / propylene glycol blend as a base is the main suspect of recent health scares related to vaping. It has been speculated that PG/VG turns to formaldehyde in your lungs, but we don’t have enough evidence to show exactly how these substances are messing with your body. Even an MCT base can be risky because we don’t really know what the effects of inhaling it are.
Another component is the material of the cartridge that you are heating the oil with. Low-quality vapes have been testing positive for heavy metals and lead, leaking from the heating component into the oil you inhale (4). When it comes to vaping cannabis for medicinal purposes, this is counter effective by introducing even more toxins for your body to fight off.
You also want to pay attention to the temperature you are vaping cannabis and healing oils at- upwards of 400 degrees is known to burn off the medicinal terpenes, or aromatic compounds, of the plant, lessening its overall healing effects.
The TONIC difference: we kept it in the safe ZONE
The primary issue with cannabis vape pens on the market is the refinement and quality of the oil itself. Our extract is a highly refined chromatography oil that undergoes what is called winterization so all waxes and lipids are removed. We also do third-party lab testing to verify the absence of residual solvents, heavy metals and microbials.
The full spectrum hemp flower extract is single origin, meaning it comes from one organic, sustainable, intentional farm that has been vetted by TONIC standards.
With 550-600mg of CBD per cartridge (because we don't alter our oil, exact potency can vary depending on the batch yield), our high viscosity oil is infused with limonene and pinene terpenes...and nothing else.
These three ingredients work together to nourish the body and mind, specifically aiding in mental clarity, energy and focus.
Our ZONE pen is sleek, and was designed with every detail in mind: the cartridge is a high-quality glass and ceramic cartridge, equipped with a battery that has only one heat setting, because we know it is a safe burning temperature that ensures a consistent pull every time.
“It took me a while to release this product because despite the super high demand for vape products from our customers. It was super important to me to only make it if I could make it as clean and safe as possible.” Brittany Carbone, Founder and CEO
There you have it folks! As is the theme with all news these days....nothing confirmed but nothing denied.
BUT, you can always trust TONIC to give it to you straight-with the intention of educating and informing the public while providing the highest possible quality on the market-or nothing!
